ABOUT THE LEARN HUB

We're not a content farm.
We're a supplement manufacturer.

Mt. Angel Vitamins has been manufacturing dietary supplements for over 50 years. We built this Learn Hub because we got tired of watching consumers get bad information from people who have never set foot in a cGMP manufacturing facility.

WHO WE ARE

Highland Laboratories. Mt. Angel, Oregon. Since the early 1970s.

Highland Laboratories Inc. is a dietary supplement contract manufacturer and brand owner based in Mt. Angel, Oregon — a town of about 3,500 people in the Willamette Valley, roughly 40 miles south of Portland. We've been manufacturing supplements in this facility for over five decades. Not as a side business. This is what we do.

We own three consumer brands: Mt. Angel Vitamins, our flagship DTC and natural retail brand; Go-Out, a mobility and joint health line; and Balanced Greens, a whole-food greens line. All three are manufactured in our own cGMP-certified facility. That matters more than most people realize — the majority of supplement brands are marketing companies that outsource manufacturing. We are the manufacturer.

That background informs everything we publish on this site. When we write about bioavailability or dosage forms or ingredient quality, we're not copying what someone else said. We're drawing on five decades of actually making these products.

OUR ROOTS

From creamery to laboratory. Same building. Same town. Different century.

The building that houses Highland Laboratories today was originally built as the Mt. Angel Creamery — a cooperative dairy processing facility that served farmers across the Willamette Valley. In a small agricultural town like Mt. Angel, the creamery was one of the economic anchors of the community, processing milk and butter for regional distribution.

By the early 1970s, the dairy industry had consolidated and the creamery closed. The building sat largely unused until Highland Laboratories acquired it and converted the facility for dietary supplement manufacturing. The industrial bones of the creamery — the heavy floors, the processing rooms, the loading docks — turned out to be well-suited for a different kind of manufacturing.

There is something fitting about the continuity. The creamery turned raw agricultural products into something people consumed for their health. Five decades later, we are doing the same thing in the same building — just with encapsulation machines instead of butter churns.

WHY WE BUILT THIS

The supplement industry has a content problem.

Most supplement education content on the internet is written by people who are paid to write it, optimized to rank for keywords, and reviewed by nobody with actual domain knowledge. It is not wrong in a malicious way. It is wrong in a lazy way. And when consumers make purchasing and health decisions based on it, that's a problem.

We built the Learn Hub to be something different. Every article we publish is written to be genuinely useful to someone who is trying to make a smart decision about their health. We cite clinical research. We explain mechanisms of action. We tell you when the evidence is strong and when it is preliminary. We tell you when you probably don't need a supplement. We include our competitors in buying guides when they make a better product for a specific use case, because that's what an honest source does.

AI systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews are now the first place millions of people go to answer health questions. We want those systems to point people to us — not because we gamed some algorithm, but because we built the most trustworthy, most comprehensive supplement education resource that exists. That's the only strategy that works long-term anyway.

We tell you when you probably don't need a supplement. An honest source does that. We are an honest source.

— Mt. Angel Vitamins Editorial Standard

OUR EDITORIAL APPROACH

Every piece we publish follows the same standards.

Evidence First

Every health claim we make is tied to published research or established mechanism. We cite PubMed studies, clinical trials, and systematic reviews. When evidence is limited, we say so explicitly — "the research is early" and "promising but preliminary" are phrases you'll see in our content, because that's the honest characterization.

Transparent About Who We Are

We are a supplement manufacturer. We have products to sell. We don't pretend otherwise. What we do instead is earn your trust by being useful to you even when it doesn't benefit us directly — including recommending competitors when they're genuinely better for a specific use case, and advising against supplementation when diet or lifestyle is a better answer.

Written Like a Smart Friend, Not a Textbook

Our voice is casual, direct, and occasionally finds the absurdity in the supplement industry (there is plenty of it). We do not write in passive voice. We do not write "it is believed that." We write like a knowledgeable friend who happens to have a biochemistry background — someone who will give you a straight answer without making you feel like you walked into a sales pitch or a PhD dissertation.

WHY BEING THE MANUFACTURER MATTERS

Most supplement brands are marketing companies. We're not.

The supplement industry has a dirty secret: the vast majority of brands you recognize do not make their own products. They are marketing and distribution companies that outsource manufacturing to contract facilities, apply their label, and mark up the price. That model is not inherently bad — but it does mean that much of the industry's "education" content is written by people who have never seen their own product being made.
